Murchison has hosted commercial client sites for over ten years. It was the first private sector company to have a web site in Tasmania.

Backup Systems
All vital data and client websites is currently backed up to a dedicated backup server with a one terabyte RAID array and also DAT tape for off site backups. The backups system has been designed so that it is possible to restore files from up to four weeks ago.

Firewall
The Murchison network is protected by a firewall. The only traffic that can go outside the network is HTTP, FTP, POP3, SMTP, and DNS. Our servers also have their own firewall software installed as secondary protection along with intrusion detection systems.

Passwords
Access to all Murchison servers and Workstations is password protected. Full access is only given to staff and restricted access is given to contractors. Inactive user accounts are deleted within 30 days or less (for example, when a staff member leaves).

Murchison possesses the capability to host clients' web sites in-house, on a variety of platforms, including Linux, Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 Advanced Server. Access to our network is provided via a 2Mbit Megalink connection to Telstra's Internet Direct service, ensuring reliability and fast access speeds for our local hosting clients, which include several high availability sites such as The Examiner newspaper, Transend Networks, Tasmanian Independent Wholesalers and The Motor Trades Association of Tasmania.

Sites currently hosted at Murchison use a variety of SQL databases including MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Postgresql and Oracle.
